Support the Alternative Textbook Fund
On One Day for UK, help make a university education more accessible for all Kentuckians by giving to the Alternative Textbook Fund.
This fund supports the Open Educational Resources Grant Program, formerly known as the Alternative Textbook Grant Program. A key component in UK Libraries’ affordability initiatives, the program has leveraged $100,000 in grants into $1.5 million in student savings since its inception in 2016. With 82 grants awarded across 42 departments, the program has touched thousands of students in every corner of the university.
Rising textbook costs have far outpaced the rate of inflation for decades, increasing more quickly than almost every other class of goods. When students struggle to afford their assigned textbooks, they take fewer courses, avoid majors that they otherwise would have pursued and perform more poorly than their peers.
Available to students at no cost, open educational resources (OER) are crucial to improving access to higher education by eliminating the financial burden of traditional commercial textbooks.
Gifts of all denominations can make an outsized impact on students who feel these financial burdens most acutely. For every $10 contributed, you can help save a student up to $150 on textbooks.
Help keep a college education in reach for all Kentuckians by giving to the Alternative Textbook Fund today.
Your Gift Will Be Matched!
Thanks to the generosity of the UK Libraries National Advisory Board, the first $2,700 given to the Alternative Textbook Gift Fund will be MATCHED dollar-for-dollar!
