Since 1943, the University Press of Kentucky’s mission has been to publish high-quality books on Kentucky and our region, in addition to scholarly books on a variety of subjects. We represent a consortium of all of Kentucky’s state universities, nine private colleges & universities and two major historical societies.

While our books range in topic, Kentucky — its people, history and culture — is at the heart of everything we do. Our books have won awards like the NAACP Image Award, Weatherford Award, American Book Award and the International Book Award. Our books have also been reviewed in The New York Times, Wall Street Journal and the Los Angeles Review of Books.

Through our Open Access Initiative, we have made 1,300 of our texts available electronically at no charge to our consortium schools, public libraries, K–12 schools and special libraries across the state. Thousands of students and citizens can now read these books for free, and we want to make University Press of Kentucky books accessible for decades to come.

The University Press of Kentucky is the best at what we do — publishing fascinating and relevant books that bring honor and prestige to the Bluegrass State and help counter the stereotypes that have held us back. Make a gift using the button above and find out more at kentuckypress.com.
